Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
-
Are there tryouts for the team? The team is open to all athletes of all abilities and developmental needs. Special needs athletes are welcome and will be accommodated by the club and coaches.
-
What are the team fees for 2025 Spring Track?Athletes must sign up with the Rainier Beach Track Club - which is a member of United States Track and Field (USATF). This allows athletes to be covered by liability insurance for training and meets. In addition to the USATF registration, athletes will be required to pay for a uniform to compete in meets. RBTC Membership: $40 per athlete for Spring Track USATF Registration: $35 per year (required for insurance and liability) Competitive USATF Races (7 and older): Typically $10–$20 per race, due the week prior (Competition is optional, but we’d love to have a big team showing at every meet to support teammates—it makes the experience more fun and encouraging for everyone!)
-
Do youth athletes need a USATF membership?Yes! For insurance purposes, all youth athletes—whether they compete in meets or not—must have an active membership with USA Track & Field (USATF). How to Register for USATF Membership The 2025 membership fee is $35.00, payable directly to USATF. When registering, you must list Rainier Beach Track Club as your club. Use our team code: 36-0170 to ensure coverage under our team insurance. Already Renewed Your Membership? If you have already renewed your USATF membership and selected Rainier Beach Track Club as your club affiliation, you can skip Step 1 on the Register page.
-
Are scholarships / financial aid available? We believe finances should never prevent an athlete from joining our club. We offer a need-based scholarship fund to help offset costs. While we are unable to cover the cost of USATF insurance, we do not want the $40 registration fee to be a barrier. If you need financial assistance or would like to set up a payment plan, please reach out to us at rainierbeachtrackclub@gmail.com—we're happy to work with you!
-
How can I stay informed about practices, meets, and updates? Please ensure you provide accurate information to the coaches, such as your email and phone number. Also check your emails to get any updates on practice or meets.
-
Will practice be held in bad weather (rain, cold, wind, etc.)?Yes, practice will be held rain or shine. However, if there is thunder, practice may be canceled or end early. Athletes must come dressed appropriately for the weather. We recommend wearing layers to stay comfortable.
-
What can I expect at Saturday meets? The team is developing a new approach to our meet structure. This will include a duel meet approach where athletes will compete in an organized structure with other USATF clubs in the region. The meets are a way for athletes to perform in race-like conditions, learn to compete and improve their individual performances.
-
Are you affiliated with USA Track & Field (USATF)?Yes. Rainier Beach Track Club is a proud USATF member and has participated in the Junior Olympics for over 25 years.
-

The spring track meets the team participates in, allow ¼-inch pyramid spikes, but always check with your athlete's coach.
